In few days my trial period for Capture NX2 expires. And need to find solution to continue using it. While I used D, all was fine. But after upgrading to D, NX2 do not support its raw files. But later that nef's can be opened in NX2 version 2.

I find that version on net by advice in this forum , download and all works fine. But 60 days almost gone, trial period is near end. So what I can do? There are many cracked versions over net which are not reliable but are potentially infectious.

And of course are not legal. I can buy legal copy of NX2 in near Nikon store, but that version is 2. Nobody can confirm me I can use it's product key for my downloaded 2. Nikon kills support for it, so here is no way for regular update to needed version, which should keep purchased key usable.

My previous product key was lost during years, and can not be tested with this version. Due installing above mentioned newer version, it required completely removing of older one, so I can not keep it. Upgrade to NX-D is not in mind at the moment, no matter it is free there is no U-point which is so useful to me. Also, I create my own workflow during years which was efficient enough and now have no time to change it. Like to continue in the same way, as much as possible.

So, what I can do? Many thanks and sorry for my broken english. I still use NX2 for processing my Df and D files. But I have come to terms with the reality that when I next upgrade, I will find another program, at least for the initial processing of the raw files.

The same serial number is what I used many years later moving to a Mac and then with a new Macbook Pro about years ago. If you have a product key for an earlier version of Capture NX-2 , it will work on all subsequent updates.

Did you register the previous version that you owned with Nikon when you bought it? Perhaps they will be able to tell you the key and you don't need to buy it again. Even if you didn't register that version it might be worth just emailing Nikon support and tell them your story. Who knows, maybe they will just give you a licence to continue to use the one you are now using. They should have provided Capture NX2 without charge to Nikon users all along, but now that they've discontinued it you'd think it would be time to let their loyal customers use the software free of charge.

I have the latest 2. I prefer to work on my converted nefs from the start in Capture NX2. However, another option that I have used that gets around converting unsupported nef files from newer cameras is to do the initial Nef processing in Capture NXD.

It's pretty basic but at least it's free and is supported by Nikon. It does the identical Nef conversion that NX2 did, and it also can apply all the factory distortion corrections for Nikon lenses. You can do your initial white balance and exposure tweaking in NXD and then you can output the file at that point as a 14 bit tiff which you can open in Capture NX2 and continue processing using u-points.
